6/20/2023 0 Comments Optical drive for mac not workingThe WinToUSB takes such longer because of how it extracts files into their directories (instead of just doing a file copy), but it has made getting Windows installed on crappy WinPCs a cake walk. MS offers an option for the former, but usually it comes back saying it couldn't make the drive bootable. The first one is great for taking, say, a Win ISO and making it into a football flash drive, and the latter will allow you to take a Win ISO and make it into a pre-installed OS-not just an installer-that you can then put into into another machine. In my admittedly limited knowledge, Ive tried cleaning the lens and inserting different disks, but nothing changes. Whenever I insert a disk, it spins inside of the unit until it gives up and ejects it. The disk slot only opens if the cd drive is connected to a laptop, and once connected to my laptop I am able to insert and remove DVDs. The description says that it is compatible with Mac, but when I plug it in, the cd drive does not appear on my desktop. Pretty clever.PS: Segue, for those that are looking that are looking for slick ways to get Win ISO and installations without having to burn bootable DVDs, Ive had a lot of success with the following apps: The optical drive does not seem to work when I insert DVDs, and no longer runs CDs (it ran one when I tested it earlier in the week). And just bought a external cd drive from VICTECH on Amazon. ![]() ![]() ![]() I was surprised to see this is possible over a LAN with a WinPC. I almost didn't click on this article because 1) this hasn't been an issue for me in a very long time, and 2) I thought it was a well-worn topic built into macOS since around the MacBook Air launch.
